The short version
You can read every article and take every quiz without an account, and we don't ask who you are. We collect two things: a nickname you choose when you play a challenge, and analytics, but only if you allow it. We don't sell or rent data, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Challenge results. When you create or answer a challenge, we store the nickname you type, your answers, your score and the time. Other people with the challenge link can see your nickname and score. Please use a nickname, not your full name. Challenge results are deleted automatically 90 days after they are saved.
- Analytics, only with your consent. If you choose "Allow analytics", we load Microsoft Clarity, which sets cookies and records how pages are used (clicks, scrolls, and session recordings with text input masked) so we can see what to improve. Microsoft processes this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. If you decline, Clarity never loads.
- Preferences in your browser. Your light/dark theme, reading text size and analytics choice are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
- Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider handles your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
Who processes it
- Vercel (hosting) and MongoDB Atlas (database for quiz and challenge results).
- Google Fonts, which serves the site's typefaces and so receives your IP address.
- Microsoft Clarity, only if you allow analytics.
These providers may process data outside India.
Your choices and rights
You can change your analytics choice at any time from . Withdrawing consent stops Clarity and clears its cookies.
You can ask us to access, correct or delete challenge results connected to you. Email contact@theitihasa.com with the challenge link and nickname, and we will act within 30 days. This applies under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and equivalent laws where you live, such as the GDPR.
Children
Itihasa is written for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you're under 18, ask a parent or guardian before playing a challenge, and use a nickname.
